1 (18 1/4-ounce) package yellow cake mix
1 egg
8 tablespoons butter, melted

Filling:
1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1 (15-ounce) can pumpkin
3 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 stick butter, melted
1 (16-ounce) box powdered sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
2 1/25 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Put the cake mix, egg, and butter in a bowl. Mix well using your electric mixer. Pat the mixture into the bottom of a lightly greased 13 by 9-inch baking pan.

Then to make the filling:, beat the cream cheese and pumpkin in a large bowl until smooth. Add the eggs, vanilla, and butter, and beat together.

Next, add the powdered sugar, cinnamon, and pumpkin pie spice, and mix well. Spread this mixture over cake batter and bake for 40 to 50 minutes. Make sure not to overbake. The center should be a little gooey.

Put a dollap of whipped cream to serve.

I adapted this recipe to take the place of pumpkin pie. for Thanksgiving the year after my house and cookbooks burned to the ground You can also change the basic recipe to make different kinds of 'ooey gooey cakes": by substituting different things for the pumpkin and change the seasonings. USE YOUR IMAGINATION !
