1/3 c shortening
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
1/2 tsp vanilla
1 c plus 1 T flour
1/2 tsp Salt

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oven to 400º

Mix shortening, sugar, egg and vanilla thoroughly. Blend in flour, baking powder and salt. Roll out dough 1/8 in thick on lightly floured board or counter top.
Cut into desired shapes with cookie cutters. Place on un-greased cookie sheet. Bake 6-8 minutes until very light brown. Remove to cooling racks.

This recipe is special to me, Doug brought this home from school when he was 9. They made them in school and he wanted me to have the recipe because I was such a "good cooker." I still have the original handwritten recipe and instructions, including who had which job during preparation. It means so much to me. He called often asking for recipes after he had a family of his own. I miss those calls almost as much as I miss him. Doug, forever 39.
