3/4 c. sugar
3/4 c. pitted dates, chopped
3/4 c. water
1 tsp. vanilla

Dough:
3/4 c. butter (1/4 c. butter & 1/2 c. Crisco)
1 1/2 c. flour
1 1/2 c. quick oatmeal
1 c. brown sugar
1 tsp. soda
2 tsp. baking powder
4 T. milk

Directions:
Directions:
Cook together sugar, dates and water until thick, stirring constantly to prevent scorching. Remove from heat; allow this filling to cool; then add vanilla.

Blend butter, flour, oatmeal, brown sugar, soda and baking powder to resemble a coarse meal with a pastry blender; add milk gradually mixing lightly, but thoroughly with fork until dough is moist enough to roll.

Gather into a ball, roll out on a well floured board to 1/8 " thickness. Cut with doughnut cutter. Place 1 tsp. filling on one disc, cover with another disc. Place cookies on ungreased baking sheet. Bake @ 350 for 12 to 15 minutes.
