1/2 cup shortning
1 cup sugar
2 eggs, well beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cups sifted cake flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 egg white
1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
1/2 cup chopped nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oven to 375. Work shortning with a spoon until fluffy and cream with granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, vanilla and next three ingredients sifted together. Mix well. Spread in greased 13x9x2 baking pan.Beat egg white until stiff, gradually add brown sugar. Fold in nuts. Spread over mixture in pan. Bake at375 for 25 minutes. Remove from oven. Cut in 2 inch squares.
