Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 c. butter, softened
2 c. sugar
4 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. almond extract
4 c. flour
4 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt

Paint (for each color)
1/4 tsp. water
1 egg yolk
food coloring
new children's paint brushes

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400º. Cream sugar and butter. Add eggs, vanilla and almond extract and mix. Add in the dry ingredients, stir just enough to mix. Chill for several hours. Keep in the fridge, taking out only what you need to roll out each time. Prepare paints by mixing the water, yolk and enough food coloring to make a bright color in a separate small cup for each color. Lightly flour the counter. Roll out a ball of dough to about 1/4 in thick. Cut with your choice of cookie cutters. Transfer to baking sheets. Gently paint each cut out with your creative design! Bake at 400º for 6- 8 minutes, just until bottom is golden. Cool on paper bakes or racks. Frost to your taste.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
We have made these every Christmas since I can remember. First with Mom (Lydia) at home. Then with her and our kids at her house, then at either Kathy's or Ginger's house with the kids and grandparents and various friends and relatives. Then with Mason at various locations. This is a four generation tradition!
