7 pounds of cucumbers, cut in one-inch chunks (don't peel)
1 quart lime and 1 gallon water
3 pounds salt
1 small box alum
1/2 small box of pickling spice
6 pounds sugar
2 quarts vinegar

Directions:
Directions:
Soak cucumbers, chunked, in lime water 12 to 14 hours. Drain and soak in strong salt water 4 hours. Drain and soak in clear water 2 hours. Drain.

Bring cukes to boil in alum water. Drain and wash in hot water. Simmer in vinegar, sugar and spices for 1/2 hour. Cool thoroughly overnight. Put in jars and seal.
