3 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 c. butter
1//2 tsp. salt
2 eggs, beaten
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350.
Mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, butter and salt as you would a pie crust, until crumbly. Add beaten eggs, vanilla and sugar.
Chill 10 minutes more or less so the dough is easier to handle.
Roll out on a floured countertop, cut with cookie cutters.
Bake for 7 minutes on a greased cookie sheet.
Cool before frosting.

For me, these are the quintessential Christmas Cookies served at mom's house at 936 Southlawn in East Lansing. Sneaking bits of dough from the stainless mixing bowl, the smell of them baking, and getting to eat the leg of the gingerbread boy that stuck to the pan!
After they cooled long enough on the wire racks, out came the bowls and baggies of colored frosting with the corner snipped just so, and little plastic containers of decorations, silver ball balls, red, green, and brown sprinkles, colored sugars.... The decorating was the real fun part, especially when Big Pop got involved!
