2 C. Flour (sifted)
2 tsp. Baking Powder
1/2 tsp. Salt
3/4 C. Shortening
1/2 C. Light Brown Sugar (firmly packed)
1/2 C. Sugar
1 Egg
1/3 C. Milk
1 tsp. Vanilla
1 C. Sugar
1 tbsp. Flour
1 C. Water (boiling)
1 1/2 C. Dates or Raisins (chopped)
1/2 C. Walnuts (chopped) if desired
1 tsp. Lemon Juice
Bit of Butter
1/2 tsp Vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Sift flour, baking powder and salt together at least twice. Cream butter and shortening. Add sugar, egg and vanilla. Add milk and flour mixture alternately, until smooth. Chill dough. Roll 1/8 inch on a floured board and cut out rounds. Place about 1 tsp of filling on each bottom round, cover with a top round . Press edges down a little to seal. Bake at 400º for 10-12 minutes or until lightly brown. Filling: Cook all together over low heat until well mixed and thick. Let cool before filling cookie round
