1 cup molasses or syrup
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup shortening
2 eggs
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup white sugar
1 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. allspice
2 tsp. vanilla extract
1 tsp. baking soda
3-1/2 cups flour
3/4 cups milk
1/2 tsp. salt

Combine the top 6 ingredients and mix well, then add the remaining ingredients. Bake in a 350º oven for about 10 minutes.
