1 C. Flour
1/4 C. Sugar
1/4 C. Brown Sugar
1 tsp. Baking Powder
1/2 tsp. Baking Soda
1/4 tsp. Salt
1/2 C. Buttermilk
1/3 C. Shortening
1 Egg

1/4 C. Brown Sugar
1/4 C. chopped nuts
1/4 tsp. Nutmeg

Directions:

Grease an 8" square or 9" round baking pan. Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup and level off. In a small bowl, combine all cake ingredients. Blend at low speed until moistened. Beat for 2 more minutes at medium speed. Pour batter into pan. In a small bowl combine all topping ingredients and blend well. Sprinkle over batter. Cover, refrigerate overnight. When ready to bake, heat oven to 350º. Uncover coffee cake and bake for 25 to 35 minutes. Test by inserting toothpick near center. Serve warm. This recipe can easily be doubled and should be in this family!
