1/2 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. brown sugar
3 eggs
1 c. grated raw carrot
1 3/4 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 sliced pitted dates
1/2 c. raisins
1/2 c. water

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening gradually adding brown sugar. Add eggs one at a time and beat after each addition. Stir in grated raw carrot.

Sift together flour, baking powder, cinnamon, cloves, and salt. Mix the dates and raisins with flour mixture. Add flour mixture alternately with water to creamed ingredients.

Bake 1 hour at 375º.
