1 cup Crisco
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 cup brown sugar, packed
1 cup white sugar
1/2 cup molasses
2 eggs
4 cups flour
4 tsp. baking soda
3 tsp. ground cinnamon
2 tsp. ground cloves
2 tsp. ground ginger
1 tsp. salt

Warm Crisco and butter in microwave until very soft. Do not heat to liquid! Cool slightly. Add sugar, eggs and molasses. Beat well. Sift dry ingredients together and add to sugar mixture. Refrigerate for a few hours or overnight.

Form 1 - 1 1/2 inch balls an roll in raw sugar (crystals). Place on greased cookie sheet about 2 inches apart. Bake at 375º F for 8 - 10 minutes. Remove to rack to cool. Store in airtight container to prevent cookies from getting too crisp. (If they do, put a piece of bread in the container for a few hours)
