3 or 4 large garlic cloves (lightly smashed),
1/2 cup of olive oil,
4 lbs. of very ripe plum tomatoes, peeled, seeded, and chopped OR two 28-ounce can of Italian peeled tomatoes, drained and chopped,
Salt,
12 to 15 fresh basil leaves, torn into pieces

Directions:

1. In a large skillet, cook the garlic in the olive oil over medium heat, pressing it occasionally with the back of a spoon, until golden (about 5 minutes.)
2. Add the tomatoes and salt to taste.
3. Bring to a simmer and cook, stirring often, until sauce is thick, 15 to 20 minutes, depending on the tomatoes.
4. Stir in the basil leaves. Serve over hot spaghetti or other pasta.
