Dough:
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 cup butter
1/2 cup butter
2 eggs
1 tsp baking soda,
pinch salt,
vanilla, and
enough flour to make dough, many cups (that's what recipe says)


Filling:
1 lb pitted dates
2 cups sugar
4 cups boiling water
2 tbs corn starch
Vanilla

Directions:

Dough:
Mix ingredients together;
Roll out and cut into circles

Filling:
Boil dates in sugar until tender; thicken with 2 tbs corn starch and mix with a little water. Add vanilla. Drop filling in circles, turn over and press edges. Bake at 375F until go,den brown.

Notes from Lucie: These cookies became swearing cookies when mom moved into a smaller appartment with limited kitchen counter space. As she tried to roll out the dough, knocking over things on the counter, or her arm into applicances, they became known as "Swearing Cookies".
