1 1/3 c. honey
2 c. sugar
2/3 c. butter
2 tsp. soda
2/3 c. water
2 eggs, beaten
2/3 c (or a bit more).candied fruits (a mixture of citron, lemon peel, & orange peel)
2/3 c.english walnuts (optional)
7 1/3 c. flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. salt

Directions:
Directions:
Put honey, sugar, and butter in large kettle and boil for 5 minutes
Dissolve soda in water and add to hot mixture
Stir in eggs, fruit, and nuts
Add sifted dry ingredients & stir until smooth
Cover bowl with wax paper and refrigerate at least 4 to 5 days to ripen
Preheat oven to 350º
Roll cookies 1/4 to 1/3 inch thick and cut into oblong pieces
Bake 7 to 8 minutes
Let cool and ice with glaze (hot water, powdered sugar & vanilla

Best after a few days in tight container or freeze for a few days before serving them. This makes circa 14-15 doz. This receipe was brouight from Switzerland by a swiss family that Settled in the Sabetha area years ago.
