3 cups sugar
1/4 cup cider vinegar
Water to cover
1 tsp vanilla

Butter a cookie sheet.

Bring sugar and vinegar to a hard crack stage on candy thermometer.

Remove from heat and add 1 large pat of butter and 1 tsp vanilla. Stir. Pour immediately into butter cookie sheet, spreading quickly. Let cool in freezer or frig. When cool, drop sheet on table to crack candy. Store in an airtight container.
