1 cup soft shortening
2 cups brown sugar
2 eggs
½ cup buttermilk or sour milk
1 tsp. vanilla
3-1/2 cups flour
½ tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1/8 tsp. cinnamon

Directions:
Directions:
Mix shortening, sugar and eggs until fluffy. Stir in milk and vanilla. Sift together flour, salt, soda and cinnamon. Add to first mixture. Place one T. of batter on ungreased baking sheet. Place spoonful of filling on dough and cover with ½ T. of dough. Bake 20 to 12 minutes at 375 deg. F. to 400 deg. F.

RAISIN, FIG, OR DATE FILLING:
1-1/2 cups raisins, figs, or dates
½ cup sugar
½ cup water
2 T. lemon juice

Mix together. Cook slowly until thickened (about 5 minutes).
If want to use pineapple, use 1 can of crushed. Raisins = ½ box.
