2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. shortening
1 1/3 c. brown sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ground cloves
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1 egg
1 c. nuts (optional)
1 c. apples, chopped
1 c. raisins
1/4 c. apple juice (or milk)
Glaze:
1 1/2 c. powdered sugar
1 T. butter
1/4 tsp. vanilla
1/8 tsp. salt
2 1/2 T. light cream

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 400º. In a mixer, cream together the shortening, brown sugar, egg, salt, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg. In a bowl combine the flour and baking soda. Add half the flour to the mixer and combine. Add the apples, raisins, apple juice and nuts to the mixer and combine. Add and mix together the remaining flour. Drop by spoonful onto a greased cookie sheet. Bake at 400º for 11-14 minutes until golden brown. While the first batch of cookies is baking, prepare the glaze. Combine all the glazing ingredients together in a bowl. Stir until smooth. Spread a spoonful of glaze over the top of the cookies when they are still hot.
