1 c butter
1/2 c brown sugar
1/2 c white sugar
1 egg
2 1/2 c flour
1 tsp soda
1 tsp cream of tarter
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla or lemon

Directions:
Directions:
Sift flour, soda, cream of tarter and salt together. Cream sugar and shortening. Add egg and blend. Add sifted flour mix and flavoring. Drop from teaspoon 2 inches apart on cookie sheet. Form an indention in the center of each. Fill with jam or nuts. Bake at 350° F about 12 minutes. Makes 3 1/4 dozen.
