"As I ate the oysters with their strong taste of the sea and their faint metallic taste that the cold white wine washed away, leaving only the sea taste and the succulent texture, and as I drank their cold liquid from each shell and washed it down with the crisp taste of the wine, I lost the empty feeling and began to be happy, and to make plans."--Ernest Hemingway

Ingredients:
Ingredients:
3 lbs. beef short ribs
1/2 cup chopped yellow onion
2 Tbsp. butter
2 Tbsp. brown sugar
1 Tbsp. paprika
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. dry mustard
1/4 tsp. chili powder
1/8 tsp. cayenne
2 Tbsp. worcestershire
1/4 cup cider vinegar
1 cup tomato sauce
1/4 cup ketchup
1/4 cup water

Directions:
Directions:
Brown shortribs on all sides in a dutch oven or stock pot over medium-high heat. Turn back heat to medium and drain off fat. Add 1 cup water and one cup beef and simmer until tender and cooked through, adding more water if necessary to keep bottom of pan wet. Meanwhile, make the sauce: Brown onions in butter. Add remaining ingredients and heat over medium heat for 10 minutes or so. Add sauce to ribs and let them simmer on low heat for 1/2 hour or grill over med. coals.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
This sauce can be used on any meat! I substitute meatballs for the ribs and serve them on mashed potatoes. Serious comfort food! It is also good on chicken or salmon.
