2/3 cup shortening
2 2/3 cups sugar
4 eggs
1 cup applesauce
1 cup canned pumpkin
3 1/2 cups flour, sifted
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
2/3 cups apple juice
1 cup walnuts or pecans, chopped

Cream shortening and sugar; add eggs, one at a time. Stir in applesauce and pumpkin. Sift together dry ingredients and add alternately with apple juice. Stir in nuts. Turn batter into 2 greased 9 x 5 x 3 in. loaf pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour or until done.
