1 cup molasses
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp ginger
2 tsp cinnamon
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup shortening
1 egg
1/2 tsp salt
3 1/3 cups flour

Directions:
Directions:
In a 2 cup measuring cup stir 1 tsp of baking soda into 1 cup of molasses and set aside. In mixing bowl, cream sugar and shortening, add egg and fold in molasses mixture. In separate bowl, fold together flour, cinnamon, ginger and salt. Add to creamed mixture slowly until all incorporated. Roll into 1 inch balls dipped in white sugar and press down with fork. Bake at 350º for 10-12 minutes on greased baking sheets.
