2 sticks butter or margarine, softened, 1 3/4 cups sugar, 2 tsp vanilla, 2 eggs, 3 cups flour, 2 3/4 tsp baking powder, 1/2 tsp salt, additional sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter with sugar. Add vanilla and eggs, beat until light and fluffy. Sift in dry ingredients and add to creamed mixture. Blend well. Drop by teaspoons onto a greased cookie sheet. Press down gently with a glass that you've buttered on bottom. Sprinkle lightly with sugar. Bake at 400 for 8 to 10 minutes or until edges are golden brown, Remove to rack to cool
