1 1/4 C. cocoa
1 C. boiling water
1 1/2 C. buttermilk (or sour milk)

2 1/2 C. flour
2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt

1/2 C. soft butter
2 1/2 C. sugar
4 eggs
vanilla

Frosting:
6 C. powdered sugar
1 1/3 C. cocoa
1 C. butter
vanilla
1/4 C. light corn syrup
Enough milk for spreading consistency

Directions:
Directions:
Mix cocoa with boiling water and add the buttermilk. Combine dry ingredients in separate bowl. Cream butter & sugar until fluffy and then add eggs one at a time, beating after each. Add vanilla.

Alternately add the chocolate mixture and the flour mixture with the egg mix.

Grease and flour 3- 9" cake pans. Add batter evenly and bake at 350 for 25 minutes or so.

This makes a large 3 layer cake. It is not as dense as Grandma Johnny's chocolate cake. Both are good tho!
