Cake:
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 c. butter
2 eggs
2 c. applesauce
1/2 t. cloves
1 T. cinnamon
1/8 t. salt
3 c. flour
1 c. raisins
2 t. baking powder

Frosting:
1/4 c. butter
2 c. sifted powdered sugar
1 T. orange juice
2 egg yolks
grated peel of 1 orange

Directions:

Cake:
Steam raisins until soft. Cream shortening and add sugar. Sift flour with baking powder, salt and spices. Add eggs to creamed mixture and blend. Mix in applesauce alternately with flour mixture. Fold in raisins and pour into greased pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 40-50 minutes. Frost with orange butter frosting.

Frosting:
Cream butter and blend remaining ingredients. Spread on cooled cake.
