1 cake of yeast, 1/4 cup of lukewarm water, 1/4 cup sugar, 1/3 cup shortening, 1 tsp salt, 3/4 cup of scalded milk, 1/2 cup cold water, 3 1/2 cups of sifted flour

Directions:
Directions:
Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water. combine sugar, shortening, salt and scalded water in large bowl. Cool to lukewarm by adding the cold water. Blend in egg and yeast. Add the flour and mix until well blended. Place in greased bowl and cover. Let rise in warm place 85 to 90 until double in bulk.45 to 60 minutes. Stir down dough. Spoon into well greased muffin tins, filling 1/2 full. Let rise in warm place until batter has risen to edge of muffin cups and is rounded in center - about 45 minutes. Bake in 400 oven for 15 to 20 minutes
