Ingredients:
2 pints strawberries; 1 3/4 cups flour; 1 tsp baking soda; 1/4 tsp baking powder; 3/4 tsp salt; 1/2 tsp cinnamon; 1 cup sugar; 1/3 cup shortening; 2 eggs; 1/3 cup water; 1/2 cup chopped walnuts; spreadable cream cheese or sweetened whipped cream

Directions:
Directions:
Puree enough strawberries, about 3/4 pint, in blender to yield 1 cup. Pour pureed strawberries into a small saucepan. Heat to boiling over medium heat and cook 1 minute, stirring constantly; cool. Slice remaining strawberries; chill and reserve.

Combine flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt and cinnamon in a large mixer bowl. Cream sugar, shortening and eggs until light and fluffy. Alternately add flour mixture and mwater to creamed mixture, mixing at low speed of electric mixer. Stir in pureed cooked strawberries. Fold in walnuts.

Spread batter in a greased loaf pan. Bake 350 for about one hour, or until toothpick comes out clean. Cool in pan 10 minutes; remove from pan and cool completely on wire rack.

To serve, cut bread into thin slices; spread each with cream cheese or whipped cream. Top with reserved sliced strawberries. Tastes pretty good plain, too!

Personal Notes:
I clipped this from the Orlando Sentinel...probably around 1984...time does fly. Handy recipe for when you've been strawberry pickin' and don't know what to do with all those strawberries you picked!
