1/2 c. shortening (I use butter), 1 c. sugar, 1 egg, 1/4 c. milk, 1 t. baking powder, 2 1/2 c. flour, 1 t. vanilla

Directions:
Preheat oven 350º. Mix all ingredients; roll out and cut into desired shapes. Bake on a greased baking sheet for 10 to 12 minutes.

This is close to Grandmother Calalla's but she always added spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice) to hers otherwise this is a good sugar cookie
