½ cup lard
2¼ cups flour
½ cup Crisco solid shortening
1 tsp white vinegar
1 tsp salt about
½ cup very cold water

VARIATION: Use any combination of lard, butter or Crisco (lard will produce flakier crust).
CUT shortening into flour and salt, in large bowl, until coarse crumbs form. Sprinkled water in gradually, mixing with fork until dough begins to hold together.
Lightly flour hands and gather dough into ball. Transfer to floured surface. Roll and fold 3–4 times till dough stays together. Cut in half and roll one half to fit pie pan (will fit up to a 10-inch pan). Trim off excess with kitchen shears or sharp knife. Continue as filling recipe directs.
BAKE: Generally, single crusts cook are fluted, evenly punctured with a fork over the bottom of the crust and baked in an oven preheated to 450° F till very lightly browned. Two-crust pies are filled, covered, crust fluted and top cut with a simple design, then baked as filling directs (apple: 375° for 40 minutes, then 400° for another 30-45 minutes till juices begin to bubble; cool on rack).
