3 strips bacon
4 cups water
1 med onion-chopped
1 cup sliced carrots
1 cup cut up celery and leaves
1 can tomatoes
2 sprigs parsley, cut fine
1 Tabs salt
1/2 bay leaf, crumbled
3 pepper corns
1/4 Tabs marjoram
1/4 Tabs thyme

Brown bacon and onions in crockpot or kettle. DON'T drain fat. Add water and vegetables (bouquet the bay leaf and peppercorns in a cheesecloth bag) Add all seasonings. Cook slowly for several hours, making sure the vegetables are tender.

Remove bouquet before serving
