1 loaf of white bread or 8 dinner rolls cut into 1 inch squares or small pieces. Place in buttered cake pan.

Custard: 1 stick melted margarine
4 eggs 3/4 c brown sugar
3/4 c sugar
dash of salt
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 cups milk

Stir well with wire whip until smooth. Pour over bread. Spread 1 stick melted margarine on top. Sprinkle 3/4 c brown sugar on top.
Bake about 45 minutes in 350 oven.

I really like raisins, so I add 1/2 cup or so of raisins to the custard before pouring over the bread. Also an extract of rum or other flavoring could be added instead of the vanilla.
