1 1/2 c sugar
1/2 c vegetable shortening
2 c sifted flour
2 T cocoa
1 tsp salt
1 oz water & 1 oz red coloring (I used 2 colorings)
1 c buttermilk
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1 T vinegar
1 tsp soda

Combine sugar, shortening, flour, cocoa, salt and premixed water and coloring and 2/3 c of buttermilk in mixing bowl. Beat until well blended. Add egg and remainder buttermilk and vanilla and beat 1 minute. Mix vinegar and soda and stir into batter by hand. Do not beat. Pour into 2 greased pans. Baker 30 min at 350
