1 c butter
1 c confectioners’ sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 ½ c flour
Red food coloring
1 c candy canes, crushed into small pieces

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 350°. In a large bowl, mix together the butter, sugar, egg and vanilla. Then stir in the flour to make a dough. Divide the dough in half and add a few drops of red food coloring to one half of the mixture and mix well. Take 1 tsp of each dough and roll into strips about 4 inches long and ¼ inch thick. Twist the strips around each other and form into the shape of a candy cane on an ungreased cookie sheet.

Bake 12 to 15 minutes. Remove from the oven. While the cookies are still warm, coat each one with some crushed candy canes..

Personal Notes:
I got this recipe out of a Gold Medal sack probably in the late '60s. They take a lot of time but the kids enjoyed them as something different.
