Ingredients:
BERRY BREAD
2 c buttermilk 1 t baking powder
6 T shortening pkg yeast
2 T sugar 2 eggs
1 t salt t soda
6 to 7 c flour or enough to be able to roll dough

Directions:
Directions:
Warm buttermilk. Add shortening, sugar & salt to blend. When cool add baking powder, soda, slightly beaten egg & instant yeast. Add enough flour to make soft dough. Divide dough in half & roll to fit 9x13 pan, then pat with hand to fit pan. Put berries on top. Bake for 1 hour at 350.
You can use any bread dough you like --- Bread maker basic recipe, frozen bread or your favorite bread recipe from scratch.

Berries: Place berries on top of bread. Do not go completely to the edge of the bread because juice runs to the sides. One 9x13 pan takes 4 to 5 cups of beries. Mix 1 cup of sugar, cup flour and spread over berries. Let dough rise until about doubled. Bake at 350 for approximately 1 hour.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
This has been a favorite in our family ever since I can remember and was always a hit at the Fair Family Reunions because Grandma Biel would make it from the time we started the Fair gatherings. Mom and Dad moved to town in 1957. After that everyone would watch the parade on the corner just west of their house and we would go back to their house for dinner afterwards. She would get out the quilts and we would sit on them to eat. Good memories!
