1 C. plus 2 T. flour
t. baking soda
t. salt
C. firmly packed brown sugar
C. butter, softened
1 t. vanilla extract
1 egg
1 12 oz pkg semi-sweet chocolate chips, divided
C. chopped nuts (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375. In small bowl, combine flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside. In large bowl, combine brown sugar, butter, and vanilla extract. Beat until creamy. Add egg and beat well. Gradually add flour mixture and mix well. Stir in 1 1/3 C. chips (and nuts, if desired). Spread into 9-inch square baking pan that has been either lined with foil or greased and floured. Bake for 23-25 minutes. Remove from oven. Sprinkle remaining chips over the top and cover the pan loosely. Allow to stand until chips become shiny. Spread with spatula. Let cool or chill to set chocolate on top before cutting and serving. Makes about 18 bars.
