1 large egg 1/2 cup buttermilk 1 tsp. vanilla 3/4 cup sugar 2 tbsp. cocoa 1-1/2 cups flour 1 tsp. baking soda 1 stick oleo 1/2 cup boiling water
Mix egg buttermilk and vanilla in bowl. Add sifted dry ingredients (sugar, cocoa, flour & baking soda) to mixture. Cut oleo into pieces over top. Pour water over all and beat 2 minutes. Lightly grease and flour 8” x 8” pan. Pour batter in pan & bake at 350 degrees for 25 – 30 minutes. Frost or cut in squares, top with ice cream & serve warm.
