1 cup chopped dates
1 cup boiling water
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1-2/3 cups flour
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/2 cup nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Cover dates with boiling water. Cool to lukewarm. In bowl, cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs and vanilla. Beat well. Add date mixture. Sift dry ingredients, flour and baking soda in another bowl. Add to date mixture, beat well and add nuts. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
