Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1/2 c. butter, softened
1/2 c. shortening
1-1/2 c. white sugar
2 eggs
2 t. vanilla extract
2-3/4 c. all-purpose flour
2 t. cream of tartar
1 t. baking soda
1/4 t. salt
3 T. white sugar
2 t. ground cinnamon
1 t. ground nutmeg

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400 F.

Cream together butter, shortening, 1-1/2 c. sugar, the eggs and the vanilla. Blend in the flour, cream of tartar, soda and salt. Shape dough by rounded spoonfuls into balls. (If dough seems too sticky, refrigerate for about 30 minutes.)

Mix the 2 T. sugar, the cinnamon and nutmeg together in small bowl. Roll balls of dough in mixture. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheets. Bake 8 to 10 minutes, or until set but not too hard. Remove immediately from baking sheets to wire racks.

Note: Cookies will have puffy middles when taken out of the oven, but will shrink down when cooling and be rather wrinkly on top. If baked properly, Snickerdoodles should have crispy golden edges and chewy centers.

Personal Notes:
At Christmas, Cliff always wanted either fruitcake or oatmeal cookies, while Julie and Nathan always asked for Snickerdoodles. Everyone is accommodated! (Of course, we're still waiting for our turn to get some Vanocka bread...)
