A major point of stress for some moms, mine especially, is knowing that the kitchen is dirty from used pots, pans, baking dishes, plates, utensils, etc...with crumbs everywhere, splatters on the floor, and ingredients laying out where they certainly don't belong. At the same time, people are sitting around watching TV, doing homework, on the computer, and most importantly, not helping with the horrific mess! I've come to realize that the best way to help this problem is to clean up as you prepare the food. Once you pour the spaghetti sauce, thow out the jar. After you mix the batter and popped it into its dish and into the oven, wash out the mixing bowl immediately. Put away ingredients right after use. Then, after whatever meal your family ate, they ALL rinse their own dish as well as one of the serving dishes. Another thing my family has come to do is have a scheduled 5 minute cleaning time. We all know how messy a house filled with kids is. Toys, clothes, shoes, books, and who knows what else scattered all over the place. At a certain time every day, the entire family straightens one part of the house as fast as they can for only 5 minutes. When the time is up...you stop. Even if it is not totally clean, you all know it is SO much better and bearable. The best part is that it doesn't take long!!! Five minutes from whatever everyone was doing and VOILA!!!! A spiffy house!!
