2 cups sugar
1 cup butter,softened
3 eggs
1 cup buttermilk
1 scant tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. salt
4 tsp. baking powder
4 1/2 cups sifted flour
extra sugar for sprinkling on top

Directions:
Directions:
Cream together sugar and butter. Add eggs (1 at a time), and vanilla. Mix baking soda into buttermilk and add. Mix together and add - salt, baking powder, and flour. Drop on greased baking sheet. I sprinkle with sugar when they are half-way done, but you could put the sugar on before you put them in the oven. Bake at 375 about 10 minutes.
