In a glass bowl place following ingredients in layers:

Lettuce, torn in small pieces
1 1/2 c. chopped celery
1 1/2 c. chopped bell pepper
1 1/2 c. red onion
2 packages frozen green peas, (cooked and drained)

Add 1 pint mayo, sealing all edges
Sprinkle 3 tbsp. sugar on top
Add 1 cup Parmesan cheese
Top with crumbled cooked bacon or salad crispins

Cover bowl with plastic covering and refrigerate overnight. You may add a layer of cherry or chopped fresh tomatoes and/or chopped carrots and/or cucumbers for another layer if desired before adding green peas, mayo, etc.

This is one of my favorites. This can be made the day before. Probably the only green salad that can be made ahead because the mayo seals off any air from getting to the vegetables. It is a beautiful dish when made in a trifle bowl.
