2 cups flour
1 tsp. salt
1 Tblsp. sugar
stick butter
cup shortening
1 egg yolk (plus enough milk to make 2/3 cup)

1 1/2 cups sugar
3/4 cup flour
1/2 stick butter (4 Tblsp.)
apples (about 6-8 cups peeled and sliced)

Cut butter and shortening into flour, salt, sugar mixture with a pastry cutter. Put egg yolk in glass measuring cup. Fill to 2/3 line with milk. Stir with a fork to mix in the egg. Mix into flour mixture. Turn out on floured board and roll to fit a 10 x 15 pan. Roll remaining dough for top.
Slice apples over bottom crust.
Mix together the sugar, 3/4 cup flour and 1/2 stick butter with a pastry blender. Sprinkle this mixture over the apples.
Roll out the rest of the crust and place over apples. Patch as needed. Bake at 350 for 45 minutes. While hot, drizzle with thin powered sugar frosting: 1 cup powdered sugar, a few drops of vanilla and gradually add milk to make frosting thin.
