4-5 large turnips peeled and sliced
1 lb diced ham or 2 big ham hocks or bacon ends
salt and pepper to taste
1 small red pepper or 1/8 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
1/2 cup sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Cook meat until very tender covered with water. When meat is done, add turnips, salt and pepper, pepper flakes and sugar. Barely cover with enough water to cover turnips. Cook at slow boil until turnips are tender. Best when warmed over the next day! Serve with hot buttered cornbread.
