1/2 cup applesauce
1/3 cup shortening
2 eggs
1/3 cup water
1 1/4 cups sugar
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/3 cup baking cocoa
1 tsp baking soda
3/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp baking powder
1 cup (6 oz) semisweet chocolate chips
1/3 cup chopped walnuts

1/2 cup confectioners' sugar
1 to 2 tbsp milk
1/4 tsp vanilla extract
Pinch of salt

In a mixing bowl, combine applesauce, shortening, eggs, water and sugar; beat for 30 seconds. Combine dry ingredients to the applesauce mixture. Beat on high for 2 1/2 minutes. Fold in chocolate chips and nuts. Pour into greased 9 x 5 x 3 loaf pan. Bake at 350 for 45 - 50 minutes.

Cool in pan 10 minutes before removing to wire rack. Combine glaze ingredients; drizzle over cool bread.
