1/2 c. Crisco
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 oz. red food coloring
(I use 1 oz. and 1 oz. water.)
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. salt
2 c. flour
2 T. cocoa
1 c. buttermilk
1 T. white vinegar
1 tsp. baking soda
Frosting:
1/2 c. flour
1 c. milk
Pinch of salt
1 c. powdered sugar
1/2 c. Crisco
1 stick oleo
1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Cream together Crisco, sugar, and eggs. Add red food coloring and vanilla. Mix. Sift together salt, flour, and cocoa. Add buttermilk alternately with dry ingredients into creamed mixture. Put into a cup the white vinegar and baking soda. Fold this into cake batter. Grease and flour 2 8" cake pans. Bake 30 minutes at 350. Cool 8-10 minutes then invert onto wire rack to cool. To make frosting; Mix together in saucepan the flour and milk. Cook over medium heat, stir constantly until thick and pulls off sides of pan. Add salt and cool. Beat on high the powdered sugar, Crisco, and oleo. Add milk mixture to it and add vanilla. Beat on high until fluffy.
