1 pkg yeast
3/4 c warm water
1 c milk, scalded
1/4 c shortening
1/4 c sugar
1 tsp salt
1 c mashed potatoes
2 eggs beaten
5 to 6 c flour

Directions:
Directions:
dissolve yeast in warm water. Combine milk, shortening, sugar and salt. Cool until lukewarm. Stir in yeast, potatoes and eggs. Gradually add enough flour to make a soft dough. Turn onto a floured sufacce; knead until smooh and satiny. Place in a lightly greased bowl; turn over to grease top. Cover. Let rise in a warm place until doubled, 1-11/2 hours. Roll to 1/2 inch thickness; cut; let rise until doubled about 30 minutes. Fry in hot fat

Grandma had two receipes in her file. This one she has marked very good, 3 times. I do not every recall being there from the beginning of making doughnuts...I have been there when the dough was rising...the cutting....frying...frosting.....eating.....yummy.
