BAKE 1 GERMAN CHOCOLATE CAKE ACCORDING TO DIRECTIONS OR MAKE THE FOLLOWING:
1/2 C WATER
4 OZ GERMAN SWEET CHOCOLATE
1 C BUTTER SOFTENED
2 C SUGAR
4 EGGS, SEPARATED
1 TSP VANILLA
2 FLOUR
1 TSP BAKING SODA
1/2 TSP SALT
1 C BUTTERMILK
FILLING:::
1 1/2 Cups SUGAR
1 Can EVAPORATED MILK
3/4 C BUTER
4 EGG YOLKS BEATEN
7oz COCONUT
1 C CHOPPED PECANS
1 TSP VANILLA

FOR CAKE: Melt chocolate in boiling water. Cool. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add egg yolks one at a time. Add vanilla and chocolate. Sift flour with salt and soda. Alternate with milk. Beat egg whites until stiff peaks form gently fold into batter. Bake at 325 to 350 degree for 30 to 40 minutes in greased pan.
FOR FROSTING:
Combine ingredients and cook over low heat; stirring constantly until thickened, about 12 minutes or and golden brown. Add chopped pecans and coconut.
