2 cups brown sugar
4 egg yolks
4 tablespoons butter
4 tablespoons cornstarch
2 cups milk
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
9 inch pie shell - prebaked and cooled

Directions:
Directions:
Combine brown sugar and cornstarch. Stir well. Add milk. Cook over low heat until thick, stirring constantly with a whisk. Mix egg yolks until well blended. Add 2 tablespoons of hot mixture to the egg yolks. Stir well. Add to hot mixture and cook about 5 minutes longer or until thick. **If it curdles, beat it with an egg beater or handmixer. Remove mixture from heat. Add butter and vanilla. Stir until butter is melted. Pour into pre-baked pie shell. Make meringue. Put on pie. Bake in preheated oven at 375 for 10-15 or until nicely browned. Cool to room temperature.
