1 cup butter
1/2 cup margarine
(or use 1 1/2 cup shortening instead)
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
2 tsp ginger
1/2 cup molasses
4 cups flour
2 tsp baking soda
2 tsp cinnamon
2 tsp cloves

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350.
Cream together butter, margarine, sugar, eggs and vanilla. Mix until well blended. Add remaining ingredients and mix well. Roll into walnut sized balls. Dip in sugar. Place on cookie sheet and bake 12 minutes.

Using butter and margarine makes the cookies soft. Use shortening for crisp cookies.
