This recipe for Roy's Banana Pudding, by Ouida Stephens, is from The Ellis Family Cookbook,

3/4 c. sugar 2 T. flour 1/4 t. salt 2 c. milk 3 eggs-separated 1 t. vanilla 4 bananas 1 box Vanilla Wafers
Combine sugar, flour and salt in double boiler pan. Stir in milk, continue to stir until thickened; beat egg yolks; gradually stir into hot mixture. Cook an additional 5 minutes stirring constantly until thick. Remove from heat and add vanilla. Layer pan alternating with vanilla wafers and sliced bananas. Pour hot custard on top; covering completely. Use separated egg whites to make a meringue topping, if desired.
